In photography, a chemical solution used to reveal the latent image that has been captured on the photographic film, as the first stage of film processing. The developer works by reducing the exposed silver halide crystals in an undeveloped roll of photographic film to silver ions. There are various kinds of film developers, which are chosen on the basis of the sharpness, graininess and tones they can render in the final image.
