Processional idol in Indian temples, usually made of metal. During temple festivals, a representation of the temple’s central deity/deities is taken on a procession on a palanquin, a vahana (mount or divine vehicle) or a ratha (chariot), as well as worshipped in several rituals. From Sankrit, meaning ‘festival idol’.
