In photography, a chemical solution used in the final stage of processing photographic film. It contains sodium or ammonium thiosulphate, which washes away all the unexposed and undeveloped silver halide crystals that are still present on the film. This fixes the negative image by making the film insensitive to light, and preventing fogging.
