A Buddha in human form, they attain enlightenment once they perform their allotted task on Earth and are released from the cycle of rebirth. According to the earliest Pali Buddhist texts, there are seven Manushi Buddhas — Vipasyin, Sikhi, Vishvabhu, Krakucchanda, Kanakamuni, Kasyapa and Shakyamuni (Gautama).
