A traditional Indian artisanal community of weavers, known for their skills in crafting cotton saris and — since the twentieth century — silk textiles. Groups within the community migrated from Tamil Nadu to Kerala in the sixteenth century to work under the patronage of the Chirakkal royal family. Today, members of the community also reside in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
