Satyajit Ray (b. 1921; d. 1992) was a filmmaker, writer, composer and illustrator whose work has received global acclaim. He is best remembered for his films Pather Panchali (1955), Charulata (1964) and Shatranj ke Khilari (1977) and his series of detective fiction, Feluda. He was awarded the Honorary Academy Award and the Bharat Ratna in 1992.
