The mythical king of the Sagara Dynasty who performed several years of penance in the Himalayas. He is known to have prayed to the river deity Ganga to descend to the earth and release his forefathers from an ancient curse. He also prayed to Shiva to channel Ganga through his hair to ebb the force of the river.
