A malevolent asura king from the Hindu pantheon who fought a war with Shiva and other devas after being granted near-immortality by Brahma and attempted to abduct Shiva’s consort Parvati. Other interpretations of the myth claim that he was Shiva and Parvati’s son, who was given away to the childless king Hiranyaksha.
