Chola Histories Grant Apply for a Grant

Impart’s general grant programme supports scholars, practitioners, and independent researchers in translating rigorous research into accessible, public-facing knowledge. Anchored in a commitment to the public good, the programme funds projects that result in books, films, digital resources, and exhibitions designed to engage global audiences.

In 2024–25, the inaugural grant was awarded to historian Anirudh Kanisetti to support the extensive research, travel, and writing of his latest work, Lords of Earth and Sea: A History of the Chola Empire (Juggernaut, 2025). Beyond the publication, the grant facilitated a collaboration with Impart’s editorial team to produce a digital suite of educational resources. These outcomes — including an interactive Timeline, Journeys on the Rajarajeshvaram Temple, Thanjavur and Chola bronzes, and custom architectural illustrations — are hosted on the Impart website alongside a recorded public talk, extending the reach of the research to a global audience, and ensuring the scholarship remains accessible beyond the book.
