A community of predominantly Kshatriya Hindus, as well as Muslims and Sikhs, whose origins can be traced to the Punjab region of present-day eastern Pakistan and northern India. Textile craftsmen of the community in present-day Gujarat and Rajasthan migrated to these regions from the Sindh area of Pakistan, likely in the sixteenth century.
