Within Jainism, they were the daughters of the first Tirthankara Rishabhanatha and princesses in the kingdom of Ayodhya. According to a popular Jain legend, Rishabhanatha is believed to have taught eighteen writing scripts to Brahmi, one of which came to be known as the Brahmi script.
