The god of fire in the Vedic pantheon and one of the five elements of Indian cosmology. Agni is also the guardian deity of the southeast direction. In the form of a ritual fire, he is considered a conduit and a messenger of the gods. Typically represented with dark skin, four arms and two heads spouting flames, he is shown riding a goat or a chariot drawn by red horses.
