A ruler of the Badami Chalukya dynasty whose reign saw the territorial expansion of the kingdom over the Deccan region. He defeated the Pallava king Harsha Vardhana but was overthrown by the Pallavas under Rajasimha. Much of the information about his cultural pursuits and patronage comes from the Aihole inscriptions.
