Eberhard Fischer (b. 1941) is a German art historian, ethnologist and author renowned for his research in South Asian, African and Oceanic cultures. He has served as the director of Museum Rietberg and president of the Rietberg Society, Zurich, Switzerland. In 2012, he was awarded the Padma Shri –– India’s fourth-highest civilian honour –– by the Indian government in the categories of Literature and Education.
