Also known as the Rudhi or the Prachya Gangas, this is an early medieval dynasty that ruled over Kalinga (present-day eastern coastal regions between the Mahanadi and Godavari rivers) from c. fifth century till c. fifteenth century CE. The dynasty is known for marrying into and challenging the Chola and Chalukya dynasties following the decline of the Western Ganga dynasty. Prominent rulers include Devendravarman Rajaraja I (r. 1070–77), who patronised the Brihadisvara temple (1010) in present-day Thanjavur, and Narasingha Deva I (r. 1238–64), who patronised the Konark Sun Temple in Puri, Odisha.
