Andal

Andal, also known as Kotai, was a ninth-century Vaishnava poet-saint active in the region of present-day Tamil Nadu, India. She was the only woman among the twelve Alvars (Vaishnava poet-saints) of the region during the early medieval era. Her literary works include Thiruppavai, verses of which are still sung in Vishnu temples of the region, and Nachiyar Thirumozhi. In contemporary times, Andal is also worshipped as a consort of Vishnu in parts of southern India.
