Shrine north of Kandahar in Afghanistan, dedicated to Shah Maqsud, a companion of Ali ibn Abi Talib — cousin of the prophet Muhammad and the first imam (leader) of the Shia sect of Islam. It is considered to be the third holiest Muslim shrine in the country; according to legend, it houses the remains of Ali himself. It features a prominent teal dome that is visible from afar.
